The tiny, yet visible vessels just under the top layer of skin are known as spider veins, or talangiectasias. They typically appear on the face and legs. On the other hand, varicose veins are distended veins that appear beneath the top layer of skin. Those who suffer from a lot of varicose vein pain often choose to have laser treatment. Since varicose veins are not functional, the body does fine without them.

It is important to realize that those who have both varicose and spider veins must have the varicose veins treated first. This is due to the fact that when varicose veins are left untreated, spider veins are more likely to come back.

Spider vein treatment can be accomplished with either laser treatment for spider veins or sclerotherapy. There are some cases where only one of these is used, and others where a combination of laser treatment for spider veins and sclerotherapy is required.

In sclerotherapy for spider vein treatment, a tiny needle is used to puncture the spider veins, which causes them to contract and collapse. Since the needle has to fit into the vein, it is usually only used on medium and large sized spider veins. This spider vein treatment is typically done right in the doctor’s office, because it is fairly pain free. A brownish stain to the vein area is possible, but will go away within a few days.

Spider vein laser treatment is used on the skin over the area where the spider veins are located. It is the laser energy that produces the effect. The spider veins coagulate and shrink under the laser. It is best used on small to medium sized spider veins. The pain associated with laser treatment for spider veins is similar to the pain you feel when a rubber band is snapped against your leg. It is important to understand that immediately following the treatment, spider veins will look worse, but will fade within 6 weeks.

Laser treatment for spider veins is the treatment of choice for people with facial spider viens. However, it is important to understand that you could have complications including matting, discoloration, skin death, and swelling.

For those with small, medium, and large veins, combination treatment is typically advised.
Costs will depend on the severity of the spider veins and the skill level of the person performing the treatment. For sclerotherapy you can expect to pay $100-$400 per session. Laser treatments generally cost between $300 and $450 per session.

While treatment will take care of the current spider veins, it does nothing to prevent the appearance of new ones. The severity circulation problems will play a role in how long it takes before new spider veins appear.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Vein Clinics of America, Inc. did not explain the exact risks, recurrence rates, or the uniqueness of its vein treatment properly. However, they have agreed to stop all misrepresentations.

Vein Clinics of America, Inc, claimed that the MicroCure process was brand new and only available at its varicose vein clinics. However, according to the FTC, this process consists of injecting a solution into a spider vein, wrapping the general area of the injection with bandages, and participating in a rigorous walking routine, and is available through various varicose vein clinics and doctor offices throughout the country. It is commonly called sclerotherapy, which is a treatment for varicose veins and spider vein treatment.

Sclerotherapy is a scientific advancement that was discovered when looking for an alternative to having spider veins surgically removed. This vein treatment is especially effective as vein treatment for veins that are overly dilated as a result of heredity, a sedentary lifestyle, a diet low in fiber, and/or pregnancy. Varicose veins are most likely to appear in the legs. Varicose veins and spider veins are known to cause pain in the form of aching and heaviness, and can sometimes be considered a health risk.

Another claim Vein Clinics of America made was that laser vein treatment had a recurrence rate of 65-85%, and that their vein treatment process, when preformed at one of their varicose vein clinics, only had a recurrence rate of 3%. However, according to the FTC the recurrence rate of laser vein treatment is much lower than this claim. As a result the Vein Clinics of America had to stop exaggerating the low recurrence rate of their vein treatment. The Vein Clinics of America also had to include all the risks of their treatment process, including mild allergic reactions, and burning, marking, or scarring of the skin.

Many times, sclerotherapy is very painful, because it typically relies on a hypertonic saline (salt water) solution that burns and cramps for several minutes. This type of solution is used to irritate the varicose vain lining and cause scar tissue to form. There are some cases in which a brownish color will appear, but this will leave after some time. For sclerotherapy to be effective, several treatments at a varicose vein clinic are required.

The symptom relief provided by both laser surgery and sclerotherapy are about the same. They are both 85% effective for varicose veins and spider veins. Contrary to what the vein clinics want people to believe, there is a higher recurrence rate for sclerotherapy. According to one study, only 50% of those who received laser surgery had a reappearance of varicose veins after five years, while 90% of those who underwent sclerotherapy had the reappearance of veins after the same lenth of time (Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology 1992; 18: 618-624).

Vein Clinics of America can only publish success rates, disease-recurrence rates, and health risks when scientific proof is shown to the FTC.

Since the turn of the century, there have been many technological and scientific discoveries for the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, which are also called spider veins. Most of the scientific discoveries were made due to the technological invention called the duplex ultrasound (DUS). All patients with varicose veins of CEAP C2 (a classification system where C = clinical severity, E = Etiology, A = Anatomy, P = Pathophysiology) or higher require a DUS. This process in conjuction with a patient’s history and a physical examination will determine if varicose vein laser treatment is required.
Spider veins lead to venous insufficiency when there is superficial reflex. Unfortunately, this is an extremely progressive process, if spider vein treatment is not sought. Most of the people with superficial venous insufficiency usually also suffer from saphenous vein reflux.

It is common for spider vein treatment to involve the great saphenous vein (GSV) being stripped in order to decrease the chance that poor communication between it and the saphenofemoral confluence and or the thigh perforator will not occur. This is now done using varicose vein laser treatment.

Prior to varicose vein laser treatment, spider vein treatment was accomplished by splitting the saphenous trunk and all its branches closer to the trunk and performing stripping or avulsion phlebectomy. In order to complete the entire process, an incisions need to be made in the groin crease and on or below the knee. Many people have minor surgical complications from this spider vein treatment. In order to perform avulsion phlebectomy, numerous tiny incisions need to be made in the vein, possibly causing damage to the nerves and lymphatic vessels in the area.

Varicose vein laser treatment is another name for endovenous laser treatment or ablation (EVLA). This process uses laser energy to destroy the venous tissue of spider veins. The laser energy is transported to the proper incompetent vein segment through a bare laser fiber which was inserted through a sheath. This vein treatment can be accomplished using a variety of laser wavelengths. The thermal energy delivered to the vein and blood results in permanent venous tissue damage to the area. Typically, this varicose vein laser treatment is continuous as the laser fiber is slowly pulled back through the spider vein, eliminating any incompetence.

Endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) is the most beneficial when used as vein treatment for incompetent truncal spider veins (eg, GSV, small saphenous vein, accessory saphenous veins). It is possible to pass a laser introducer catheter along small and crooked veins. However, if the varicose vein is too crooked, it is very hard to pass through to complete the spider vein treatment.

Prior to endovenous laser treatment, exactly which areas of the saphenous vein are causing reflux is determined by ultrasonography. The ultrasonography is started at the saphenofemoral/saphenopopliteal junction and continued down the leg. Once damage is determined an entry point is chosen that is at the distal end of any incompetent segment. The vein is entered using a micropuncture needle introducer. A surgical marker is used to mark any vital landmarks during this process. These marks are then used during the varicose vein laser treatment.

In preparation for endovenous laser treatment, the leg is prepared and draped. Then a superficial local anesthetic agent is applied to numb the area where the micropuncture needle inducer will be inserted. To be sure the cannulation goes smoothly, ultrasonography is utilized to guide the needle. To continue with the varicose vein laser treatment, the Seldinger technique is taken advantage of for passing a guidewire into the vessel. This guidewire is then passed up the vein to the saphenofemoral/saphenopopliteal junction. Finally the introduce sheath is passed over the guidewire, which will promptly be removed.

Laser treatment is mostly use for treating spider veins on the face. Laser Varicose veins treatment does not in the consideration and most of the doctors also have doubt that it really work or not in case of varicose veins and it was not cover by most of the health insurance plans. Now, as new technology has arrived in laser treatment can effectively treat varicose veins in the legs.

Laser Varicose Veins, Means surgery of varicose veins through laser: in this process, a strong light of laser is focus to the leg, that focus directly on the affected veins and veins slowly fade and disappears. Laser rays hit accurately to the position and damage that area only where the treatment is required. American Academy of Dermatology believes that the new technology of laser treatment of varicose veins is more effective with fewer side effects. In this process there is no need of needle or incision so, it is more comfortable. When laser enters’ in your body through your skin, it pinch your skin and the skin is soothe by cooling both before and after the laser is applied. There would be some swelling and redness in your skin right after the treatment, but it will disappear in few days. The whole process of laser varicose veins treatment is last for 15 to 20 minutes and depending on the severity of veins. Two to five treatments may be required to remove varicose veins in the legs. Patient can feel normal right after the treatment.

Various lasers can be use for laser surgery to treat varicose veins and spider veins on the legs and face. You can prescribed this by your doctor that which suits to you better for surgery, some of the lasers used for the treatment by yellow light Laser varicose veins, green light laser, and other intense pulsed light laser systems. However, health insurance coverage may vary. If you go through this process only for cosmetic reason, it may not be covered.

Although U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has approved this treatment in march 1999 to use this new procedure in United states, it is not widely used as sclera therapy but many doctors feel comfortable with this treatment in case of varicose veins. As it is not very invasive and can be treating in doctor’s chamber. This treatment involves putting catheter (a small tube) into the veins, Catheter sends radiofrequency energy to cause the vein wall strengthens and seal shut. Blood can regulate more efficiently in healthier veins surrounding the closed veins. After the treatment right, patient feels better. The only side effect is slight wounding.

There are mainly two type of surgical process used to treat varicose veins:

Ambulatory phlebotomy

Vein stripping

Ambulatory Phlebotomy

Sever varicose veins can be treated with a surgical process known as ambulatory phlebotomy. In this treatment for Varicose Veins, a surgeon makes a series of tiny deflate holes along the vein and then takes out tiny segments of the vein.

The small incisions require no stitches. Most people experience very low pain after the operation and are able to walk immediately after the surgery.

Nice To Know:

Ambulatory phlebotomy can be done in one 45-minute session under local anesthesia in a physician’s chamber or an outpatient center. The surgery uncommonly leaves scarring.

Vein Stripping

Surgery could a second option i.e. Varicose Vein Ligation, which is also known as varicose Vein Stripping is an optimal option, consists of small incisions used to remove the damaged parts of the vein and reconnect the vein in a different place to help the blood flow normally. Process involves slicing the vein to release the pressure followed by tying the vein off to prevent future swelling. Varicose vein ligation is a clinic or outpatient procedure, since most often patients do not required to stay overnight in the hospital.

As a result of removal treatment for varicose veins, it won’t appear for 3-4 weeks after the process. The body should dissolve the destroyed veins by the time. It may be possible that the treatment may have to repeat for more times, if results are not satisfactory.

Possible effects of Vein Stripping

The principal effects following vein stripping include:

Occasionally, the process can damage trivial nerves along the stripped vein, causing a uneven area of numbness in the leg. The nerves simply recover, however, and sensation counters.

In some instances, it can result in such ramifications as infection, which will require antibiotic treatment, and bleeding, which can be handled usually by firm pressure.

Nice To Know:

Since 85% of patients experience long-term relief of varicose veins following vein stripping.

Sclerotherapy can be performed in a doctor’s office and works like this:

With using a fine needle, the doctor simply injects an irritating chemical (the sclerosing agent) into the varicose vein.

Doctor may prescribe anesthesia to minimize risk of injecting sclerosing agent.

The sclerosing agent produces scar tissue inside the vein, which stop the flow of blood to that vein, shutting it down permanently.

You should be confirmed that injection treatment is especially useful for treating for varicose veins small one below the knee. It could also be useful in treating some cases of spider veins.

Sclerotherapy is not suitable for:

Large varicose veins

Varicose veins extending up to the groin

People who are obese

After the procedure:

There may be some effects and redness of the skin at the injection sites.

Your doctor may apply a compression bandage to the area. You would need to wear this bandage for about three weeks.

Walking is necessary in regular practice.

Many people are able to return to work and daily chores within 24 hours, if not immediately.

Possible Complications of Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is sometimes very successful, but not always. Each varicose vein may occur again and require treatment. Other complications include:

Blood can come out from the treated veins into the surrounding tissue, which develops brownish discoloration on the skin around the treated veins. This discoloration will finally fade in four to six months, however sometimes it takes as long as a year. In uncommon cases, the discoloration is permanent.

In rare cases, a tiny, depressed scar may look after treatment, or a blood clot may produce in a treated vein.

The process may leave a fine network of smaller varicose veins at the site where the larger vein was treated.

The chemical solutions taken in the process contain high concentrations of salt, which can temporarily arouse blood pressure. Solutions have lead allergic reactions in some people, but these are uncommon.

Need To Know:

Women who undergo sclerotherapy should not take oral contraception precautions for six weeks before and six weeks after this treatment, because of an increased risk of hemorrhage (bleeding).

These are the best effective relief options, available for the treatment of Varicose Veins their pain and swelling and also reduce further formation of such malfunctioning veins.

Compression stockings improve circulation by throwing pressure on the leg muscles that squeeze the veins, thus improving the flow of blood back to the heart. Hence, there is decrease in swelling, tiredness, and achy feeling. Elastic hose will not be enough for treatment varicose veins.

During pregnancy varicose veins is one of the most intolerable conditions. But now the treatment of laser, varicose veins can be treated easily and more effectively. In laser surgery it makes a very strong burst of light on to the affected part of veins because of which slowly veins get fade and disappeared. If it is safely treated their will de no skin color loss or skin burn.

Surgery through laser- varicose veins treated faster as it will take only few minutes to get cure from this painful stage of varicose veins. The person who doesn’t want to operate this as it use needles and incision for them laser surgery is the best way. Laser treatment takes 15-20 minutes for surgery, depending upon the type of severity; two to five rounds are generally needed to remove completely varicose veins.

Some side effects of surgery through Laser- Varicose Veins

There will redness and swelling comes on the skin which would disappear in few days.

Color of skin will be changed right after the surgery and will be their two to three months.

Laser surgery as not perform perfectly can give skin burns and scars.

Intravenous Techniques (radio frequency and laser): The deeper varicose veins of legs called as saphenous veins can be treated by this method. It is more successful as it has changed many surgeries of sever varicose veins to this treatment. This process is not lead to any incision and can be done in doctor’s chamber also.

In this process catheter a very small tube put inside the vein which sends out radiofrequency or a laser energy which modify the walls of vein. Thus, the healthy vein around the closed veins improves the flow of blood. As the blood regulates smoothly through the veins the symptoms of varicose veins improve. The veins which are visible on the upper surface behind the skin also get improve after treatment.

In this article we had made a try to help you out in your problem by few tips, even it is not possible to completely eliminate it.

Pregnancy- Varicose Veins are those veins which appear like heavy lines that run just below the skin surface in your legs, shank or vulva. Although these veins are already their from the beginning as it is not visible earlier but due to the week walls of veins the veins become stretched and the blood circulation in the veins get chocked because of which veins get visible in the skin and creates a blood clots in certain areas.

The lady should not stand for a long time continuously, She should not wear tight cloths and should avoid sitting crossed leg as there were many hormonal changes take place in a pregnant lady because of which already veins get affect and in that if such actions are taken then it will put more stress on the veins that will lead to create more problem in pregnancy- varicose veins.

Taking proper diet can also provide relief to your varicose veins as the intake of high fiber foods, sufficient amount of fruits, vegetables and fluid will keep your constipation at bay. If you have a sever problem you must take advice from your medical consultant. If the problem is not much severed then the creams that contain vitamin K are more effective. These cream helps in strengthen the walls of vein and get them to tighten up so that blood can circulate in the veins without any problem. There are tights which are available on the medical counter for special support to the veins.

Permanent treatment for pregnancy- varicose veins is only you can get surgery and injections. You can use the series of injections containing sclerosant. This is injected directly to the veins having problem, helps them to close up and becoming non function and invisible to the eye.

It is advisable in case of pregnancy- varicose veins that you should first take a consultancy to your doctor about it. Because if it will become a sever problem it will be more painful and can lead to blood clots. So, before taking some home made treatments first you should go to your doctor and take the right advice from your doctor.
